Service

OSU Extension Service each year.

OSU Extension Service has enriched the lives of Oregon residents
in all 36 counties since 1911.

than 30,000 Oregonians volunteer each year to serve others through
Extension Service programs.
- OSU's
roots go back to 1858 when it was established as a private academy
in Corvallis. College-level courses were added in 1865 and the
first degrees were awarded in 1870.
- A
land grant university, OSU was designated as Oregon's state-assisted
agricultural college in 1868. Sea grant and space grant designation
came later, making OSU one of only six universities to have
all three titles.
- For
more than 100 years, OSU has had a three-fold mission of teaching,
