What affect does Oregon have on an artist? We asked Oregon artist Shirley Reade, who currently resides in Springfield.

Artist Bio

Born in Portland, Oregon and raised in the Tualatin Valley; Shirley has written several step by step oil and acrylic instruction books and teacher’s manuals. Working as an Administrative Assistant with Alexander Art for nine years, she demonstrated and taught classes in trade shows across the country, directed annual painting seminars, instructor conferences, and open houses featuring national television artists.

Painting with Oils and Acrylics Shirley has worked with a variety of subjects, winning ribbons and awards for her art work.


She is currently teaching and painting in her studio in Springfield, Oregon. With her own easy paced teaching abilities, she offers personally supervised painting lessons with step by step instruction. ‘Creating aShirley Reade painting is a renewing experience, time stands still and you are able to let go of everything else.’

Shirley serves as the President of the Emerald Empire Art Association at The Emerald Art Center in downtown Springfield, Oregon. ‘As an artist I am always excited and grateful to those who promote the arts. It not only gives the artist an opportunity to tell his or her stories, but affords the viewer a powerful and uplifting experience.'
