Winter
in Oregon Just Keeps Getting Better

When
I was 8 years old my aunt and uncle took me to Hoodoo
and introduced me to the great sport of skiing. I've been
under its spell ever since. In the succeeding winters,
I spent as much time and money as I could afford enjoying
the pleasures of Oregon mountains and snow.
Today,
years later I must add, snowsport enthusiasts no longer
comprise just Alpine schussers, but Nordic cross-country
devotees, snowboard fanatics, snowshoe adventurers, winter
campers and just about anyone else who revels in the pleasures
of the winter wonderland.
Today,
the services and amenities offered by Oregon winter destinations
are greatly improved, making the state a national and
even international destination for those looking for the
perfect snow, the greatest runs, and the finest dining
and lodging.
Bend
and its adjacent Mt. Bachelor have become a mecca for
locals and jetsetters alike. Mt. Hood remains a striking
symbol of Oregon and is a haven of snowsport destinations
including the estimable New Deal-era Timberline Lodge.
Other
areas around the state offer everything from the most
extreme outback adventures to friendly family resorts
with good restaurants and comfortable inns that provide
everything for the après-snow experience from relaxing
hot tubs to rocking nightclubs.
If
you thought only the European Alps or the Rocky Mountains
were capable of providing a world-class winter vacation
experience, take another look at Oregon. Our scenic beauty
and the unpretentious but elegant style of Oregonians
are bound to please even the most demanding winter tourist.
