Bandon’s
second crab derby is under way. Anyone (except commercial fishermen and divers)
who legally catches a tagged crab
is eligible for up to $1,000 in cash prizes. The derby officially closes at noon
on August 31st.
The
derby was organized by Dave and Eileen Schradieck, owners of Bandon Beach Vacation
Rentals and Bandon Beach Vacation Properties, LLC.
“We
would like to see more fun events in town that locals and tourists will have fun
doing and at the same time help promote a healthy business atmosphere in all of
Bandon,” said Dave Schradieck.

| “We
think if people have fun and win some prizes and money that they will talk about
our town and hopefully others will come to Bandon,” Schradieck added.More
than 100 Dungeness crabs will be tagged with small brass tags and put into the
Coquille River off of Bandon’s crabbing dock July 1 thru August. People who
catch a tagged crab are asked to bring the crab with the tag attached to Tony’s
Crab Shack on First Street for verification and to record the crabber’s information.
Only tags that have been properly recorded are eligible. The tag then goes into
box that will be used to give away up to $1,000 in cash prizes in six different
drawings.

For 2008,
The drawings will be held on Saturday, July 12, July 26, August and August 23.
The first four drawings are for $100 each and you must be present to win. If there
is no winner in three tries, the unclaimed money will be put into the August 31
drawings. The first drawing is for $1000.00 dollars if you are present, if you
are not present you get $750.00. The second drawing is for $300.00 if you are
present, if you are not present you get $150.00.
Last year’s Grand
prize winner ($1000.00) was Gary Brink from Bandon! Also Terry Tiffany & Eileen
Diaz from Bandon won $100.00 cash each.
The
